Ghost In The Shell (2017) – Deep Dive Documentary Teaser With theaters being shut down across the nation and worldwide, I’m left with a silver lining in an opportunity to work on a documentary for 2017’s Ghost In The Shell. The production was welcomed with great acclaim after enduring 20 years of development hell. Director Rupert Sanders alongside concept artists Ash Thorpe and Maciej Kuciara brought visual might and extreme confidence in the aesthetics of the proposed film. However early social and critical critique over the casting of lead actress Scarlett Johansson was met with negative opinions. There was an opportunity for two studios to create a new franchise based on a popular manga comic by Shirow Masamune — one which DreamWorks’ Steven Spielberg was elated to acquire nearly a decade ago — featuring a popular action star in Lucy and Avengers’ Scarlett Johansson. After the films extreme box office flop and a hefty $170 million budget, chances for a series of sequels are nil. But the question remains…what really happened?
